Take a stand and lend a hand

WHAT: We have been learning about how we can 'Take a stand and lend a hand'

SO WHAT: We have been learning about different approaches towards bullying weather you are being targeted or you are a bystander watching someone being bullied, (for example) you could be a follower ( join in with the bullying ), a supporter ( encourage or ignore the bullying ) or a defender ( discouraging and taking a assertive response towards bullying ).

NOW WHAT: I am going to try my hardest to always make the right decision when it comes to someone else being bullied.

Technology

WHAT: We had a go at some of the technology at Lincoln primary school.

SO WHAT: At Lincoln primary we got a chance to look at what programs the year 7/8s do every Tuesday. I was in the pink group and we got to do design, woodwork and science. In design we had 30 minutes to create a bridge that would support 500 grams for ten seconds then if it held we would determine who was the winner by the length of the bridge. For the wood work we got to poker burn coasters and for science we made paper clip and straw floaters that sink and rise when you squeeze them.

NOW WHAT: Mext year I am looking forward to robotics and textiles and design.

Swimming

WHAT: I have been involved in swimming this week.

SO WHAT: we have been learning about safety skills and endurance testing in our class and it was really fun when we got to play with the ropes and noodles in our safety lesson. I found it really challenging to stay above the water when we had to trend for 2 minutes.

NOW WHAT: I want to improve on going faster in backstroke and breaststroke because when we do ten lengths of each stroke I can stay ahead of people by a length with freestyle but not in the other two ones.

Thursday 1 September 2016

Transitions

WHAT: We have been learning about Transitions last week.

SO WHAT: Some of the values I ticked are move safely because I never will trip people up or walk in ledges and stay in line because I don't stay back and drift back and forth.

NOW WHAT: I ticked two ticks on use quiet voices because sometimes I won't (use quiet voices).

Winter sport

WHAT: I have been involved in Winter Sport this year.

SO WHAT: This year it has been really fun for me to be part of the netball team competing in winter sport. We have had some really funny times and some good ones too. One of our best games would have been on the very last week when we made a massive comeback pulling into the lead by 8 goals who were all done by Siobhān.

NOW WHAT: Throughout the year I was mostly placed on defense so I never got a really good chance to shoot so I would like to work on playing in attack and shooting better.

Olympics

WHAT: We have been learning about the Olympics

SO WHAT: I enjoyed watching the woman's pole vault competition because Eliza McCartney was there on her first time at the Olympics and she got a perfect run all the way up to 4.85 metres which scored her a bronze medal but if she had made 4.85 she would have won.

NOW WHAT: A sport I would like to compete in would be ice skating because it looks so graceful and dainty and it would require lots of skill.

Maths Measurement

WHAT: We have been learning  measurement

SO WHAT: in this task we had to figure out multiple equations that all linked up.
An example is question a was ' in the opening round Sam gets 2/5s of the mini chocolate bars and 1/4 of the chuppa chups. There are 50 mini chocolate bars and 16 chuppa chups. Here is my answer

Student led conference writing

WHAT : Blog your conference sharing about writing

SO WHAT: In my student led conference I shared my classification paragraph about Orcas. Here it is
Classification :
Orcas are the largest dolphins in the world and one of the most powerful predators in the sea. Orcas are mammals and are very closely related to common dolphins like the short beak dolphin and the long beak dolphin. The orcas scientific family is called delphinidae it includes around 36 different species of dolphins like the bottlenose dolphin, the pilot whale and the false killer whale. The Orcas real name is the Orcinus Orca but nowadays they are usually referred to as Killer Whales, Blackfish or Orcas.

NOW WHAT: In my student led conference my writing goal was to
Get a better understanding of the vocabulary that I use and giving a range of short and long sentences with different sentence starters.

Playground CARE Values

WHAT: I have been learning to manage myself in the playground

SO WHAT: I think that I have been showing the CARE Values in the playground by getting involved and taking turns and returning gear to the appropriate places.

NOW WHAT: I think I need to work on playing safely because sometimes younger children or other people walk around when I am shooting in the netball courts and if the ball hits the rim or pole and somebody is standing in the way they will get hit in the head.

Extra Learning Opportunities

WHAT: I have been involved in extra learning activities in 2016

SO WHAT: Some of the things that I have been involved with are radio station, netball for winter sport and wet day monitoring. I have learnt how to use the controls on the control boad in the radio room which can control the sound, the volume, the microphones and the music when people are talking. I have also learnt that it is really hard to control a room of crazy year 4s when I am a wet day monitor.

NOW WHAT: In term 3/4 I would like to try some different activities that are available and and try to involve myself more in PALS.

Tuesday 21 June 2016

Winter Sport

WHAT: I have been involved in weekly winter sport in 2016

SO WHAT: I play netball in the 5/6 A team. So far we have had only one win but all our loses have been really close and have mostly been with in 5 points difference. In our previous game we lost 11 - 15 against Paproa st which is a lot better than I thought we would get considering one of our tallest players hurt herself right before we left. I think I have improved on sticking to the player I am marking

NOW WHAT:  I think I need to improve in not contacting when I play.

Habitat Art/writing

WALT: Describe different habitats in New Zealand and species that live in them.
SO WHAT: for our habitat art we had to use a mix of collage, water paints, pens and pencils. I chose to do freshwater for my habitat. I used paint to create my sky and water,  for my backg Lund I used pen and pencil and for my foliage, sun, rocks and animals I used collage.

NOW WHAT: next time if I tried again I would like to make it more simple and maybe use a different habitat.

Here is a photo of my art

WHAT: We have been reading about Habitats

SO WHAT: My group has been reading about the desert habitat and I have learnt that some deserts are freezing cold and and most people live in huts made of animal skin called yurts and a place called Death Valley can reach up to 57 degrees Celsius.

NOW WHAT: I wonder how animals could live there

Wednesday 18 May 2016

Habitats and Species

WHAT: We have been learning about habitats and species

SO WHAT: What changes do I need to make to protect habitats and species? I have learnt that orcas have belly buttons.

NOW WHAT:
How long does it take for animals to migrate to a water source?
Why are some animals born deaf/blind?
How often do sandstorms happen?
Hey do spiders have more than two eyes?

Friday 13 May 2016

ANZAC Day

So what: In room ten we have been learning about ANZAC day. We have been learning about what they had to eat, what they used as weapons, what woman did for war and we have also done some activities around the War subject.

Now what: I would like to know if anyone that survived war is still alive

Thursday 7 April 2016

Writing

WHAT: I have been involved in a range of writing experiences.

SO WHAT: This year for writing we have been given lots of opertunities to write about so many things. We have written camp letters to the parent helpers, multiple sets of instructions, using cards to write about things like your favourite animal to writing about what you want to be. We also have a awesome writing system that allows us to write whatever we want.

NOW WHAT: My next step is to get better at writing for certain audiences

Thursday 24 March 2016

Run Bike Run

WHAT: I competed in the Kauri Run Bike Run this week.

So What: For the Kauri Run Bike Run this week I competed in the teams race with my friend Siobhan. We decided to practice the course on Sunday the day before the event so we were prepared for what we had to do. On the day my favorite part of the race was watching Siobhān do a massive catchup at the very end of the race and my worst moment was when my chain came out while I was waiting for Siobhān to tag me. Our final result was fifth in the teams overall but we were the first girl team.

Now What: Next year if I am her I would like to try and beat the score that we got this year.
